The 7 Best Hidden Spots Near Los Sueños, Costa Rica

Secret places just a short drive away (shhhhh🤫)

La fortuna waterfall

While Herradura and Jacó are already tropical paradises, there’s even more magic nearby—small, hidden gems that most tourists drive right past. If you’re craving natural beauty without the crowds, these spots are your ticket to the real Costa Rica.

1. Playa Blanca (Punta Leona)

📍 15 minutes from Herradura

A stunning white-sand beach tucked inside the Punta Leona complex. Public access exists, but many don’t know about it. Crystal-clear water, gentle waves, and perfect snorkeling conditions.

Hot Tip: Arrive early. Access is limited and parking fills up fast!

2. Bijagual Waterfall (Catarata Manantial de Agua Viva)

📍 25 minutes uphill from Jacó

One of the tallest waterfalls in Costa Rica, surrounded by lush jungle. The hike is steep and challenging—but the view and the sound of water crashing 600 feet below are worth every step.

Best For: Adventure lovers, hikers, and nature photographers.

3. Playa Mantas

📍 Next to Playa Blanca

This beach has calm, family-friendly waters and beautiful tide pools. It’s often overshadowed by Playa Blanca but just as gorgeous—especially at low tide.

Bring: Snacks, shade, and water (There are no stores nearby!)

4. Carara National Park (Hidden Trails)

📍 10 minutes from Herradura

Most visitors only see the main trail—but ask a local guide about the Laguna Meándrica or hidden side trails. You’ll find howler monkeys, toucans, and peaceful spots to sit and watch wildlife.

Hot Tip: Best early in the morning before the heat kicks in.

5. Playa Agujas & Playa Bochinche

📍 20 minutes north of Herradura

Small, rocky beaches with local charm, perfect for a beach picnic or a peaceful morning swim. You might find local fishermen casting nets or riding horses along the sand.

Bonus: Great spot to launch a kayak or paddleboard.

6. Quebrada Amarilla Waterfall (local secret)

📍 About 30 minutes from Herradura

Located in the mountains above Jacó, this small waterfall is a local treasure. Not marked on Google Maps, so you’ll need to ask around in Quebrada Amarilla town.

Access: Best with a 4x4 and a sense of adventure!

7. Vista Los Sueños Adventure Park (off-the-beaten-path trails)

📍 Right in Herradura

Even though it’s a known attraction, few know that beyond the zip lines and horseback rides, the park has hidden trails and private view spots overlooking the Pacific. Quiet, green, and perfect for a walk after the rush of activities.
