Fishing in the Pros: Mainor Oporta
A Winning Legacy, A New Chapter Begins
Mainor Oporta is no stranger to success—his name has become synonymous with excellence in the world of professional sportfishing. Year after year, he has consistently delivered top-tier performances on the tournament circuit, combining instinct, precision, and strategic leadership to remarkable effect.
The 2025 season is already off to an impressive start. Mainor secured a 1st Place victory in the Mega Marlin Category, along with a Daily Win in the Marlin Division (Day 2)—a strong signal that this year could be one of his most successful yet.
His accomplishments don’t end there. In the renowned Rockstar Tournament, one of Latin America’s premier and most competitive sportfishing events, Mainor reaffirmed his standing among the best. In 2024, he earned a Top 10 finish out of 107 participating boats, a testament to his enduring consistency and elite skill. Notably, in 2017, he led his team to an overall 1st Place victory in this very tournament, held in Quepos.
Mainor has also demonstrated a pattern of upward momentum in the Buds and Suds Tournament, achieving:
3rd Place in 2023
2nd Place in 2024
Looking ahead, Mainor has set his sights on 1st Place for 2025—and given his track record, few would bet against him.
His legacy in sportfishing spans nearly two decades. Among his early milestones are a 1st Place finish in the World Billfish Series (WBS) in 2007, followed by 2nd Place in 2008, as well as a 1st Place win in the Costa Rica Classic in 2006—solidifying his reputation from the outset.
At Maverick, we take immense pride in the dedication, talent, and professionalism of our captains. Mainor Oporta’s career is a shining example of the excellence we strive for every day—on the water and beyond.
