Yellowfin Tuna: Bring It Home

Want To Take Your Tuna Home?

If you had an incredible day offshore and landed a beautiful yellowfin tuna, it’s completely normal to ask: Can I take some of this fish back home with me?

The good news is, yes, in most cases you can, but there are a few important steps to follow to make sure everything goes smoothly.

1. Check with Your Airline

Before making any plans, contact your airline directly and ask about:

  • Weight limits for checked baggage

  • Cooler policies

  • Dry ice restrictions (if allowed and how much)

  • International food transport rules

Each airline has different regulations and limitations, so getting their approval first is essential. Once they give you the green light, you’re ready for the next step.

2. Properly Package Your Fish

To travel safely and avoid any issues at the airport, your fish must be:

  • Professionally cleaned and processed

  • Vacuum-sealed

  • Frozen solid

  • Properly labeled

  • Packed inside a high-quality insulated cooler

Vacuum sealing keeps the fish fresh, prevents leaks, and makes the transport process much easier. A sturdy cooler helps maintain temperature during travel.

Final Tip

Plan ahead! Processing and freezing require time, so let us know at least 24–48 hours before your departure flight to ensure your tuna is perfectly prepared for travel.
